Beacon Hill :: Boston Dating Advisor

Historic Beacon Hill is often referred to as the center of politics in Boston, since the State House sits atop the hill; however, this neighborhood is made up of traditional row houses, narrow streets, and secret gardens, all of which give the area a Dickens-esque charm. That charm lends itself nicely to the boutiques and restaurants dotting the hill, making them perfect for both laid back and dressed up date nights.

Grotto
Nestled into a subterranean spot is Grotto, one of the most romantic spots in Boston. With low lighting and an intimate-sized space (think cozy), you'll instantly fall in love with the atmosphere -- even if love isn't in the cards for you and your dinner companion. If there IS a spark, you'll find Grotto to be just the thing to keep it going. With an emphasis on fresh, local ingredients, this Italian bistro serves up a nice array of offerings, including House prepared ricotta, sausage, peas, mushrooms, pancetta, and cream, and sweet potato ravioli with Amaretti, brown butter, and sage. Once upon a time, Grotto offered a $35 pre-fixe only during Restaurant week; however, the offering was so popular that they now offer it all year long.

Figs
Figs is one of Todd English's successful enterprises, and as expected from this chef, the food is delicious. The tiny jewel box of a space keeps things intimate with exposed brick walls and low lighting. Among their long list of tasty items, we highly recommend the warm bacon and spinach salad, and the fig and prosciutto pizza. Go early or late to avoid waiting in a long queue, then head out to explore the always charming Charles Street.

Liberty Bar
The elegant Liberty Hotel was once a prison, its "rooms" providing housing only for those who had committed misdeeds. Just after the turn of the millennium, the building underwent a massive renovation, with sunny, tasteful guest rooms and a moody, dramatic lobby that's the perfect place for the fashionable to mingle. The Liberty Bar, often referred to as the "Lobby Bar," isn't just fashionable -- the mixologists here know how to serve up a strong and tasty drink. All dolled up with nowhere to go? Not anymore.

Beacon Hill Bistro
The Beacon Hill Bistro is tucked inside the Beacon Hill Hotel, a classic Boston establishment styled with gleaming dark wood, sumptuous fabrics, and, of course, a brownstone exterior. The restaurant serves up a selection of contemporary French bistro cuisine, and Chef Richmond Edes ensures that the dishes are made with local, organic ingredients. While the Beacon Hill Bistro is an ideal choice for an elegant dinner when the street lamps are lit on Charles Street, they also serve a scrumptious breakfast and brunch -- the ideal spot for the morning after a successful night of romance.
